Just a few bits of information from from "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"
Twins can either be monozygotic (MZ, colloquially "identical") or dizygotic (DZ, colloquially "fraternal" or "non-identical")
There are estimated to be approximately 125 million human twins and triplets in the world (roughly 1.9% of the world population), and just 10 million monozygotic twins (roughly 0.2% of the world population and 8% of all twins). The current rate in the United States is 31 twin births per 1,000 women.
There are five common variations of twinning. The three most common variations are all dizygotic:
Male–female twins are the most common result, 50 percent of DZ twins and the most common grouping of twins. Female DZ twins (sometimes called sororal twins) Male DZ twins
The other two variations are monozygotic twins: Female MZ twins Male MZ twins (least common)
The fact that Male identical twins is least common is surprising to me given Male singleton births are 5% more likely than a female singleton birth.
We are welcoming DZ twins or fraternal twins. This was a given when we found out they were Boy/Girl twins!! This puts us in the "most common" category ... so making this more normal right ... well I don't always feel that way.
So with all of those stats and the "Twin Trend" on the rise, I have one question! Why is it that there is only one twin pack n' play on the market? The last of the twin equipment we invested in ... wondering what to do with the babies when we first brought them home and when they are not ready for their cribs! So it was the Graco Twin Pack n' Play that made it to our door this afternoon. The mailman so graciously carrying it to our front door as he watches me waddling from the couch through the window, trying to keep my 90lb dog from attacking him (with slobber and loving dog kisses.) Obviously feeling sorry for me, he waited until I could lock the dog up before leaving the heavy over sized box on the front porch. I finally made it to the door and he offered to at least place it in the foyer for us so that our twin investment was not left out in the rain. Feeling completely overwhelmed again as he says "good luck" and lets me know he has 4 kids, like that was going to make me feel better :)
So here it is .... the one Twin Bassinet Pack N' Play on the market ... in the lovely shade of neutral green.
As for our lives outside of twin investments, Tyson continues to keep us smiling. Thanks Aunt Michelle for the bath time water colors! Tyson will ask for a blue bath now, or red bath, or yellow bath ... you get the idea. What matters is that he LOVES bath time. Bargaining with the fact that he gets to take a blue bath helps Daddy fight the "I would rather be outside playing" 2 year old tantrum! We will continue to update posts on the pregnancy. Finally it feels like the doctor's appointments have been a little less hectic. We have another ultrasound Monday and will be able to get an estimate of the babies weight gain. I will also be starting the stress tests in a week from now until the babies are born. They would like a chance to monitor amniotic fluid and the babies heart rates (along with a lot of other stuff the nurse rattled off way to fast) as we get closer to arrival time.
